Last month we received the first photos of the woodbot prototypes from the factory in Hong Kong. However, it was first now I found time for feedback (yes it is a side project) so hopefully I will see a new version of these guys soon. The biggest issue right now is the small details, specially the hands. So I am very excited to see what solutions they have on my feedback. Do we need to redesign or do we need to find another solution? Plan B is to make the hands in plastic.

This is really coming together. Starting to look great, i agree about the hands though. will these be for sale (some day)? I’d love to have one on my desk.

another piece of awesome you created.
i guess most if not all of my feedback has already crossed your mind, but while i’m here i might just drop some of it anyways:
- I love the ‘50esque shape of the single eyed version. the two-eyed version is a lot closer to the android robot, though; if that is what you are going for.
- the top/bottom ratio of the single eyed version is more stylish.
- way too much detail on the arms anyway; you could easily dismiss the upper arm, but you should keep those huge hands, just smooth them. and no individual fingers, no toy needs that– you obviously got that perfectly right in your draft.
- the chess-piece like bevel at the bottom of the two-eyed droid adds more welcome detail to it. i would like to see it on the single-eyed bot.
- those two thin stripes also look very flashy, however they probably wont work on the single eyed version. i realize i may be far off on this one. on a second thought: that’s probably why you didn’t put those stripes there ;-)
I have been checking back on your site every now and then since 2005. i just love most of your work.
